first assignments

                                    65 Bank Street                                  Jonathan Niederer

September 4, 2011, two friends who are soon to become roommates transported their items of value into their new home on 65 Bank Street in New York City. Matt Reynoso, a recent high school graduate from Santa Rosa California has moved to New York for good on his quest to become a paid musician. While Jonathan, a student at the New School University right down the road has finally found a place of permanent residence after being homeless for sometime. The two friends are very excited about living together but it is yet to be determined as to whether their different lifestyles will mix and match or mix and explode.
When we asked Matt what his thoughts were on the whole living situation he replied, “Man I’m not too worried. I do like to party and be loud but knowing Jonathan I’m sure he’ll never be here anyway so I’m not too worried. I just know the main issue will be him getting on my case about keeping my shit clean cause he’s mad scared of bugs and shit.”
Jonathan, who was right next to Matt, replied, “Yea that all sounds pretty correct. I don’t care what happens I just don’t want bed bugs or cockroaches.”
The two are currently trying to decide what to do with the space and who will get the larger room. Luckily both are fairly laid back and prefer to avoid conflict so hopefully they’ll be able to figure it out peacefully and quickly. Matt secretly wants the larger room but is trying to play off like he doesn’t while Jonathan is going to take the room unless Matt puts his manipulation tactics into action.
The two roommates are very excited and relieved to have a place to call home that’s in such an ideal location. As Matt and Jonathan stand outside on the tree lined street casually smoking cigarettes and discussing life in New York there is a brotherly feel that cannot be avoided. The nighttime air carries a smell of something different than the tummy-tempting aroma of the infamous Café Clooney down the street. This smell is something not too far off from love. This smell will waft through their apartment and will keep the two friends bonded together no matter what the future holds. It is above any mess that Matt could make or any dose of criticism that Jonathan could deliver.
High hopes are in store for this apartment. The good times that are ahead are undeniable. As Matt and Jonathan look down their new street toward the Hudson and the beautiful town houses that surround their new home they can’t help but feel raw excitement and hope for the months and years to follow at their new home at 65 bank street.
